Building Beautiful Homes

A little history

Since 2006, Paul Klavins has been helping home owners create a sense of belonging for the heart, while maintaining a modern and open approach for construction methods.

Whether it be a small living room renovation or a Japanese inspired home on mega-anchors with a separate floating artists studio, Paul Klavins has provided professionalism, experience and a unique focus for sustainable building methods over the past 10 years.

Though born and bred in Queensland, Paul has recently relocated to the Sunshine Coast after a stint in Tasmania. Paul has identified the need for the unique service he offers from the wealth of expertise gained working in one of the greenest and innovative states in Australia.

Working on scores of projects around the country, Paul Klavins has a solid foundation with jobs ranging from simple extensions to working on award winning hotels with one of Tasmania's largest construction companies.

The move to Noosa particularly matched his lifestyle and belief in how a home should be created. Watching the Sunshine Coast become a premium lifestyle destination was a calling card to bringing his skills to an already exceptional group of talented builders and construction companies.

Though Paul has specialized in difficult jobs or contracts requiring unique materials, he always welcomes projects of any size, however simple or complicated.

Sustainable Building

Green building or sustainable construction has been quite the buzz over the past few years. Smart homes, Eco Materials and a range of other terms all refer to being environmentally responsible in creating a construction process that allows for a low impact development and small carbon footprint.

The video demonstrates how low maintenance materials with minimal waste and site disturbance can create low cost attractive housing.

Empowering sustainability includes the building's entire life-cycle from design to construction and maintenance. The choices don't just relate to materials, but how they are used and implemented.

As a specialist in sustainable building through the HIA GreenSmart Program and as a partner with James Hardie and  the Smarter Small Home Group, Paul Klavins is able to provide expert advice in revolutionary new home construction techniques.

His projects have ranged from small home improvements to full scale multi-storey dwellings. Traditional high set Queenslanders, multi-storey houses on suspended concrete slabs, timber frame single level homes, rock face suspensions, infinity view construction, dormer windows, atriums, extensive renovations, historic renovations and also a number of medium to small extensions and alterations including kitchens, bathrooms, wall & room removal and additions. Some of which include working with toxic-free materials for eco-sensitive clients with severe allergies, and re-cycled bricks using lime mortar for cement sensitive and low carbon footprint aware clients.

Paul has worked with a team of four permanant staff, has provided contracting services and project management consultations.

Nestled into the hillside, this home has captured the fresh coastal air and comes complete with historic apple pickers sheds.

Overlooking the bay, taking advantage of the panaoramic views was imperative. This also allowed the use of natural light to filter through the rustic yet modern home, allowing future electicity costs to be kept to a minimum as the energy efficient home kept the warmth during winter while being able to opened up during summer reducing the use for air-conditioning and heating.

A low environmental impact was attained through the use of toxic-free timber sourced from local sustainable timber mills. Working with the architect, the home was designed around the existing landscape, making use of cost effective construction techniques.

By taking advantage of the narrow frontage, this home was able to be compartmentalised and raised into the rock face to allow breath taking views over the coast.

Using suspended flooring, the open carport allowed maximum use of the upper living and bedrrom areas as well as ventilating the home to keep it cool in summer. The lock-up workers shed made this a multi-purpose space with built-in laundry facilities.

Double insulated glass was used to increase energy efficiency during winter and to reduce noise pollution from the main road. High ceilings used with the internal stair wells gave the impression of a very spacious home, considering the limited availability of space.

The geometric design kept costs to a minimum and allowed for the creation of a dining area that opened to the outdoor entertainment balcony with 180 degree views.
